The 22 Essential Restaurants (and Vineyards) in İzmir, Turkey
İzmir, a city and region of the same name along the Aegean coast, has been a Turkish food hub for thousands of years. The archaeological excavation at Klazomenai, an Ionian city beneath the modern town of Urla, uncovered evidence of the earliest-known large-scale olive oil production site, dating back to the 6th century B.C. This is just one of the many locations, including the ancient cities of Ephesus (home to the Temple of Artemis) and Pergamon (a UNESCO World Heritage site), that attract history enthusiasts to the area.
